2010 - 2011 Mayor Councillor R. H. McNicholl Function: Monday, June, 7, 2010. Reception for Alderman Cecil Calvert
One of the TT’s most loyal followers, Alderman Cecil Calvert of Lisburn City Council, was a guest of the Mayor and Mayoress in the Mayor’s parlour on Monday, June 7.
2010 is the 50th year Alderman Calvert has been attending the TT festival and to mark the occasion the Mayor presented him with an engraved salver. Councillor McNicholl said Alderman Calvert’s half a century of following the event was ‘a marvelous achievement’ that showed ‘true dedication’ to the sport.
Alderman Calvert was also presented with a pewter tankard by Geoff Corkish, MHK who referred to the gesture as ‘an official thank you on behalf of tourism in the Isle of Man and of Tynwald’ for his devotion and loyalty to the TT.
In his vote of thanks Alderman Calvert said it had ‘been a joy to come to the Isle of Man’ for the past 50 years, a place that was ‘very dear’ to his heart. He also shared memories of the ‘challenging’ TT circuit and said he looked forward to coming to the Island for many years to come.
Alderman Calvert then presented the Mayor and Mayoress with tokens of his appreciation.
Among the other guests were TT rider Adrian Archibald, from Ballymoney and his wife Melanie, presented respectively with cufflinks and a pin bearing the Borough Arms by the Mayor.
