Library's 'world' just got a whole lot bigger

The ‘world’ just got a whole lot bigger at the Henry Bloom Noble Library

As well as the World of Books serving as the library’s Island of Culture-inspired theme for March, the library’s ‘world of eBooks’ is becoming bigger and ever more popular.

There are now more than 2,000 titles available to download as either eBooks or audio books and the download page on the library's website has received in excess of 30,000 hits since it launched.

You can now download more devices than ever before, including Kindle Fire HD, (but not any other Kindle devices).  For the full list of devices check out the panel opposite.

LibraryClosedMediumDownloads are available 24/7 and not only can you search the library’s eBooks catalogue, but also see additional titles OverDrive has available and recommend those you would like the library to include.

And it couldn’t be easier to read books online, especially with the ‘read in your browser’ feature. If you haven’t downloaded before and are already a member of the library, you just need a PIN and you’re ready to go. If you’re not a member then it’s simple to join online or call into the library at 10 Victoria Street, Douglas.

You can download up to six eBooks and/or audio books for either seven, 14 or 21 days and the item will even return itself after your preferred time, avoiding charges on overdue items.

There’s also a new-look OverDrive (the eBook provider) help site.

SummerMediumBorough librarian Jan Macartney said: 'More and more publishers are getting on board with titles from well-known authors such as Lee Child, Nora Roberts, Danielle Steel, John Grisham, Patricia Cornwell and Adele Park now available online. We also have a wider choice for children and young people, including fiction authors Jacqueline Wilson, Veronica Roth, Roald Dahl, Holly Webb, Suzanne Collins and David Walliams.

'And with summer hopefully not too far away, that's the perfect time to download some eBooks to take on holiday, so you can pack fashion not fiction.'
