Capital to host 2026 Civic Sunday

Civic Sunday is to be marked in the Island’s capital this weekend.

Douglas City Council will hold its annual commemoration on Sunday, 27th September, led by the Mayor, Councillor Steven Crellin, JP.

Representatives of other local authorities, government departments, ex-service and charitable organisations, and members of the public will take part in the civic occasion.

A parade, led by Douglas Town Band, will form outside City Hall in Ridgeway Street, departing at 10am and travelling via Victoria Street, Duke Street and Market Hill.

The Civic Service at St Matthew’s Church will be conducted by the Mayor’s Chaplain, the  Reverend Dr Michael Brydon, with a ‘Blessing of the Sea’ due to be held shortly before the start of the service at 10.30am.

Members of the public wishing to attend are asked to be at the Church by 10.15am.

The Mayor has selected three local causes for his 2026-27 charity appeal: the Great North Air Ambulance Service, Forget Me Not IoM and A Little Piece of Hope.
