Election 2025

Local authority elections will take place on Thursday, 24th April, 2025. Douglas Council will have 12 vacant seats, split between the four Wards, Central, East, North and South. 

 

To stand as a local authority member, you must appear on the Register of Electors - you do not have to be registered in the constituency for which you are standing. The registration deadline to stand in the upcoming election is 24th February 2025 and the registration deadline to vote in the election is 25th March 2025. Contact the Crown and Elections Unit on 685754 or at gov.im/registertovote for more information or to check if you are registered. 

 

The term of office is 4 years.

If you are interested in standing, or want to find out more, you can;

 

1. Attend public Council meetings on the second Wednesday of the month in the Council Chamber, at Douglas City Hall;

2. Read agendas and minutes by clicking here;

3. Speak to the Council's Democratic Services Team at democraticservices@douglas.gov.im or call 696313;

4. Speak to an existing Councillor (details available by clicking here);

5. Follow the Council on Facebook or Twitter to keep up to date with Council news.

7. Attend one of our informative drop-in sessions for propspective Douglas Councillors to be held on the following dates:

  • Friday 28th February: 12noon - 2.00pm
  • Tuesday 4th March: 12noon - 2.00pm / 5.00pm - 7.00pm

 

Elected Members are required to attend regular Committee, Council and other meetings. All Council and Committee Meetings take place during office hours and generally last no longer than half a day. An attendance allowance can be claimed as follows;

 

1. Daytime rate: £12.50 per hour (to a maximum of £50 per session)

2. Evening rate - £7.50 per hour (to a maximum of £30 per session)

 

The maximum yearly allowance available is £6,000.
