The bandstand was formally opened by the then Mayor of Douglas Councillor David Christian JP on May 26th 1996.


Ever since, it has proved to be a popular attraction of Noble’s Park – hosting public entertainment such as Punch and Judy shows as well as private functions such as wedding receptions.





The bandstand could previously be found within the grounds of the Villa Marina but was later moved to Noble’s Park. This transfer is commemorated on a plaque adjacent to the bandstand which reads: 'This Douglas Centenary Bandstand originally located in the Villa Marina Gardens on Harris Promenade was relocated to this present position in Noble’s Park and officially re-opened on 19th April 2008 by the Worshipful the Mayor, Mr Councillor C.L.H. Cain, J.P.'


In October 2015 the bandstand was re-named The Ian Clague MBE Centenary Bandstand in recognition of the former Borough Engineer's 37 years' service to the Council and his commitment to promoting music, in particular brass band music, to young people and the wider community.

Can I hire the bandstand?

Yes, the bandstand can be privately hired for events such as the taking of wedding photos, musical performances, and many more.

How much will it cost to hire the bandstand?

Private hire will often not attract a charge however any commercial use or hire by any organisation will have to be preapproved by the Council and may be charged.
